BLUE HOPE a solo show of works by Najha Saleh

PV: Fri 17 Oct 6pm - 9pm

Exhibition: Sat 18 Oct & Sun 19 Oct, 11am - 7pm

Blue Hope exhibits the work of Najha Saleh, an Iraqi ceramicist and sculptor.

Her work is deeply inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Iraq, interweaving Sumerian and Babylonian themes with modern techniques and visuals. Her art incorporates recurring motifs of natural and architectural scenery from the Middle East to portray a visual identity of the region as well as the people who navigate its complex environment. Najha’s colour palette is carefully considered, with a focus on blues and turquoise shades, strongly associated with the Middle East. By mixing glazes and often firing her pieces multiple times, I achieves a rich depth of colour that brings out the inherent beauty of the ceramic material. For the artist, each ceramic piece is a window into her memories, often reflecting scenes from everyday life.

Najha Saleh studied sculpture at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and specialised in sculpture and ceramics at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Bulgaria. Throughout her career, Najha Saleh’s art has been exhibited in 7 solo exhibitions and over 100 joint exhibitions internationally, contributing to her recognition as an influential voice in contemporary ceramic art.
