A solo exhibition of works by Alaa Siraih
Born in Basra, Iraq with a Bain Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad, Alaa worked as a theatre designer at the Baghdad National Theatre. He has exhibited widely in Iraq, the Middle East and Europe. Ala has been living and working in London since 1998.
‘In my paintings, I try to discover and to study the city in order to change its characters, in an attempt to radicalize it and to grant it a unique artistic and visual identity despite the diversity of the surrounding atmospheres. Cities have their own memories, history, ways and labyrinths. I did not try to reflect the city as it is, but catching it through a visual access and changing it through art into a utopia with its own symbols and senses along with my own feelings towards it as a scene with an ambiguous meaning. I dealt with it as a product of the past. From this perspective, the city seems to be a pure and a happy place. In this respect it serves as a cover, a container of the past keeping all the old impossible dreams inside. This is turning it for me into a source of sorrow, remembrances and real figures. The other view concerns the city as it is now, in the present time, along with its reality and sufferings. The city I am trying to portray is a mixture of the past and the present, a mixture of reality and dreams, of memories and impossible desires. In my cities, the border of joy fades to pain and turns out to be a dream full of reality or a complicated and intensive symbol enriched by genuine reflections. The techniques and colours together create a world on space that is about to speak out. My city is either a souvenir or a reality that can be looked at through a sensitive eye and an emotional and excited mind. It is an attempt to fix my longings on canvas. Though it is not an invitation to go back to the past, it reflects the need to go beyond the coloured spaces and behind the entrances of my cities which are built on the ground of the past as it was in itself life waiting to be set free from its captivity.’

Mysore Traditional Paintings: A Legacy of Gilded Divinity
Mysore painting is a classical South Indian art form that flourished under the royal patronage of the Wodeyar dynasty in the region of Mysore, Karnataka. Known for its refined elegance, muted colours, and spiritual themes, this art form is rooted in the traditions of the Vijayanagar Empire. After the fall of Vijayanagar in the 16th century, many court artists migrated to neighbouring regions, including Mysore. Here, they blended their inherited techniques with local traditions, giving rise to the distinctive Mysore school of painting.
These paintings primarily depict Hindu deities, mythological scenes, and stories from epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas. Artists employed natural pigments sourced from plants, stones, and minerals. Brushes made from squirrel hair allowed for fine, delicate work.
A hallmark of Mysore painting is the use of ‘gesso work’—a mixture of white lead powder, glue, and gamboge—applied to create low-relief embellishments, later overlaid with gold foil. This intricate detailing enhances the sacred aura of the artwork.
Mysore paintings are not merely decorative; they embody devotion, precision, and a deep cultural heritage. Each composition reflects a spiritual journey, capturing both the artistic finesse and the devotional spirit of its creators.
Today, Mysore painting continues to be revered as a symbol of India’s rich cultural and artistic legacy preserved and celebrated in museums and collections around the world.

Cloisonné Enamel Application Workshop by the Artist. Booking link: https://tinyurl.com/8htrfkzb
Zixiang A is a Chinese Bai ethnic artist specializing in cloisonné enamel, jewelry, sculpture, and oil painting. Trained under master craftsman Huo Tiehui, her work is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture, particularly the metal art of cloisonné. However, rather than merely replicating tradition, she explores new modes of expression within a contemporary context.
Cloisonné was introduced to China from Arab regions, first gaining popularity in Yunnan before spreading to the central plains. Over time, it evolved within Chinese culture, eventually becoming an imperial treasure and an integral part of Eastern aesthetics. In Zixiang A’s work, this cross-cultural craft transcends static museum displays, engaging dynamically with space, light, and time, transforming into a living cultural symbol.
For this exhibition, she draws inspiration from the Silk Road to create an immersive artistic environment. Cloisonné objects stand atop pillars partially buried in sand, resembling desert beacons that witness the convergence and migration of cultures. Scattered boats drift through shifting sands, symbolizing the passage of time and the search for home. Filigree patterns flow like currents, glazes reflect the imprint of time, and sand carries the weight of memory—history is reborn in this space. Cloisonné is no longer merely a continuation of craftsmanship but a contemporary narrative of culture, history, and movement.

WE BELONG TO THE EARTH
An interactive sensory exhibition by Venetia Nevill.
Thursday Oct 3 - Oct 9, 12 - 6 (or by appointment)
Venetia Nevill creates multi-sensory and interactive installations that act as a pathway to healing through a reconnection with nature. Her practice draws on ritual, astrology and a sensory connection with nature.
We belong to the Earth is a result of the artist's ongoing exploration into the stillness within and around us. The healing powers of a local spring flow through many of Nevill’;s works and are shared through a sensory mandala at the heart of the exhibition. Her 'night vision paintings &on the other hand are witnesses of the inner resources that aid the alchemising of pain into a source of peace.
An installation of small clay vessels formed around cedar cones was co-created with family and friends, each vessel holding individual expressions of unmet needs. Together they become a Mandala of Hope with clay connecting the human spirit with the natural world, and the cedar tree offering healing, protection and abundance.

Exhibition ‘In-Yeon’ is the first UK Solo Show of Claire Kim.
Claire Kim is a figurative oil painter who graduated from Hong-Ik University MFA in Korea and obtained a painting MA from the Royal College of Art in the UK.
Her pictorial language is influenced by pop culture and various mass media, and her painted characters represent individuals who dream of fantasy like us and serve as protagonists of a winding narrative through In-Yeon. Thus, her painting works as a scene from a long story, like a moment from a drama or a frame from a comic book.
Through this exhibition, she invites viewers who stand at the intersection of fantasy and reality into a dreamlike illusion, akin to a drama they might have longed for while gazing at her artwork.

MEMOIR
Asma Sultana is an interdisciplinary artist. Asma organised and curated many solo art
exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in many different countries. She was
featured in print and digital media in Canada, Bangladesh, and India, as well as in CBC Arts. Her
works are in many private collections, including the famous British Saatchi Gallery, Alliance
Française, France, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga. In her diasporic identity, she is
Bangladeshi-British and working in Canada. She has been trained in Fine Arts and Art History in
Bangladesh, England, and Canada. To conceptualise her autobiographical work, she uses her hair
and thumbprints as her media to explore her identity in time and space.
The Memoir is a visual memoir, a collection of autobiographical works I have created
over the past several years, exhibiting for the first time in the UK. It is an interdisciplinary
installation that expresses migration, identity, and personal trauma in the complex societies of
contemporary times. It mirrors my experience as an immigrant in different countries on personal
and universal levels; my creative methodology is evolving around my quest to know myself, my
culture, my country, the world, and the universe in which I was born and lived. I construct,
deconstruct and reconstruct my life experiences in the East and the West. To conceptualise that, I
use my uprooted hair as the thread to embroider or needlework and make dresses, patterns, and
portraits.
Moreover, I employ used objects from my daily life and modify them by adding my
discarded hair, which I have stored carefully. I wanted to give my biological existence a place in
my art. The process of collecting, cleaning, and storing hair one by one is like a mindful ritual
for me, carefully arranged activities like taking care of someone or something. Human hair is a
filamentous biomaterial that contains dead cells and is infused with DNA; it is a profound
symbol of identity. In Bangladeshi culture, long, healthy hair embodies female beauty—a
cherished trait passed down from my paternal grandmother, whom I had never met since she died
of childbirth. The way the hair falls from our body, leaves fall from the trees, and seeds dispersal
for germination, migration, and displacement is happening in nature every moment; it is part of
life. Every journey begins in our mother's womb, with mothers serving as gateways between
worlds. These components intertwine within my work, capturing the spirit of my nomadic
existence.
The rich fabric, textile art, and embroidery traditions, deeply ingrained in Bangladeshi
heritage and lovingly taught by my mother, are integral to my creations. Many great museums
worldwide display Bengal textile art; my work represents that part of ancestral identity with a
contemporary twist. I proudly cherish that embroidery culture and treasure the legacy of
storytelling through my art. - Asma

Transitional Traces, is a group exhibition curated by Qinle Jin and Hanxu Zhang that presents over 20 abstract works featuring paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and installations crafted by 12 talented artists studying at the Royal College of Art. Traces may vanish in an instant, but emotions still will remain. The exhibition represents the dynamic interplay of visual elements, inviting visitors to silently engage with the works while exploring the balance between rational composition and emotional expression. The paint is thinned to a liquid and flows over the various works, while the image is shaped by relationships and mediated by colour tones. It creates a transitional undercurrent that flows through the air, imbuing the space with rhythm and emotion. It specifies the exhibition’s ambiance, infusing the works with an almost ethereal visual tension.
