Fri 1 March - Sun 3 March 11:00 - 17:00

Mon 4 March until 16:30

Curated by Qinle Jin & Hanxu Zhang

Transitional Traces, is a group exhibition curated by Qinle Jin and Hanxu Zhang that presents over 20 abstract works featuring paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and installations crafted by 12 talented artists studying at the Royal College of Art.  Traces may vanish in an instant, but emotions still will remain.  The exhibition represents the dynamic interplay of visual elements, inviting visitors to silently engage with the works while exploring the balance between rational composition and emotional expression. The paint is thinned to a liquid and flows over the various works, while the image is shaped by relationships and mediated by colour tones. It creates a transitional undercurrent that flows through the air, imbuing the space with rhythm and emotion. It specifies the exhibition’s ambiance, infusing the works with an almost ethereal visual tension.

The world hath aged, whilst humanity is fledgling

Opening : 12 January 2024,  5-8pm

Exhibition time : 13-14 Jan 2024: 11am-5pm Daily

Exhibiting Artists:

Cans Studio/ Xuanbo Cao/ Zijing Chen/ Shuting Cui/ Youyi Dai/ Wenwen Deng/ Xin Guan/ Yuechen Jiang/ Zhongshun Li/ Jozie Lin/ Yimu Yang/ Di Yao/Linan Zhang/ Hengtian Zhou

Exhibition Concept:

This is an experimental exhibition organized by the Y Manifesto, simultaneously opening in London and Los Angeles. It is a cross-regional exhibition with a common theme.

Between the serene walls of the MP Gallery in London and the Gong Gallery in Los Angeles, we invite you to immerse yourself in an exhibition that transcends geographical boundaries. This exhibition explores human history, philosophical contemplations, and ecological ethics. The theme, "TWHAWHIF - The world hath aged, whilst humanity is fledgling," aims to delve into an ancient and complex proposition: whether history is always destined to repeat itself.

"The world has weathered the ravages of time, while humanity is still in its infancy" not only reflects the length of history but also prompts profound reflections on human behavior and decision-making. Recent global controversies surrounding certain material emissions into the oceans provide a thought-provoking backdrop. Concerning the cyclical nature of history:

Nietzsche's Eternal Recurrence (Friedrich Nietzsche): Nietzsche proposed the concept of the "eternal recurrence," suggesting that events in history would repeat themselves over and over again (found in "Thus Spoke Zarathustra"). This book contains some of his most important thoughts and viewpoints. He believed that the entire universe and all things would infinitely repeat, including human life and every subtle event.

Hegel's Dialectical Method of History (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel): Hegel's philosophical view of history sees it as a dialectical process, asserting that history is in constant repetition but in different ways.

Rush to the Wilderness

The pandemic era has shifted our perspectives and highlighted the interconnectedness of all beings, including the natural world. Inspired by our collective urge to return to the wilderness, we explore the relationship between nature, human identity, and connection in the aftermath of a global crisis in this exhibition. As we navigate a new normal, we are reminded of the vital role that nature plays in our lives, providing solace, nourishment, and a sense of belonging. Through art and reflection, this exhibition invites us to immerse ourselves in the diversity of flora and fauna, to appreciate the delicate balance of ecosystems, and to cultivate a deeper connection to the natural world as we move forward in a post-pandemic era.

'These days gender as the topic has become a mouse trap that everyone knows but no one discusses. On the one hand, the sweeping generalisation of the broader society continues to fail in identifying individualism and yet objectify personal experience and expressions. On the other hand, merely circling and posing about gender within the art circle comprises a part of political righteousness and a marketing scam. Against this phenomenon, the exhibition focuses on acknowledging ourselves and revealing our identities beyond social constructions, while the artists shift between the roles of observer and practitioner.
